Like many people a few months after their birth of our first child, we decided to venture back out into the world. While we were head over heels in love with our new boy, as self-confessed foodies and lovers of good coffee we were also ready to get back into the cafe and restaurant scene – and of course socialising with our beautiful friends and family.
We discovered it was not easy to find cafes and restaurants that catered for our new found needs – change tables, pram space, breastfeeding friendly, high chairs, staff who welcome families, and as time has gone on – kids menus with something other than chicken nuggets and frozen pizza, and an excellent babycino.
We found this particularly problematic when we travelled (another long lost love that we were hoping to re-discover as our little man grew!). We spent a lot of time researching and asking questions to decide whether or not the trek across town in an unknown city was going to be a major disappointment. In one instance we were refused entry to one restaurant just because we had our little man in tow!
Children and families, in all of their shapes and forms, are literally the lifeblood of the nation and everyone’s future. We decided there had to be a better way for anyone who wishes to dine out with children. Kid Friendly Cafes was born after a bottle of wine shared between husband and wife, following a road trip up the East Coast and some café and meal experiences that made us wish yet again we had been able to source some recommendations.
Like many people, we enjoy blogs about good food and parenting, but we aim to do much more. Our aim is to create the most comprehensive searchable directory of Kid Friendly Cafes (including restaurants, bistros, hotels and clubs) Australia wide. We want to help Australia’s great Kid Friendly Cafes to make it simple for you to find them and enjoy their welcoming service (and good food and coffee!). On top of this we offer ratings and reviews, because nothing speaks louder than your lived experience.
Our directory is free for cafes to list, and for you to add cafes, so that our site is the most comprehensive in Australia. We want to make sure that all cafes that welcome you with your little ones in tow are listed, so please head over here and let us know about your favourite hidden spot.
We believe that taking our children out into the wider world and meeting other people, teaching them how to behave in public and interact with strangers is all part of helping them grow up into capable, confident adults. We want to help families identify, and shop at places that welcome us on our journey as parents.
We have many new and exciting features in development. So please stay tuned.
